We welcome Charlottesville volunteers!

Short-Term Volunteering

Spanish Translation We are looking for a few intelligent, fluent Spanish-speakers who could translate our intake forms and resource pamphlets from English into Spanish. Translation can be done here in the office, or we could send you the information electronically and you could volunteer at home. There are several Spanish-speakers at ReadyKids who can proof read the final product, if you would like help. Email Kristin Sancken, Communications Officer, or call (434) 296-4118, ext. 233 if you are interested!

Healthy Snacks Most kids arrive at counseling appointments directly after school and are hungry. They do much better in therapy sessions with a healthy snack in their bellies. That’s where YOU come in! We’re looking for a few generous volunteers to lead a healthy snack drive in their community. Examples of snacks include Goldfish, Cheese-Its, Pirate Booty, Pretzels, Raisins, Granola Bars, Nutrigrain Bars, Applesauce, Veggie Sticks, Wheat Crackers, Ritz Bitz Cheese Crackers or Graham crackers. (Please no nut products, due to allergies.) Preferably, snacks would be individually packaged for ease of distribution. Email Kristin Sancken, Communications Officer, or call (434) 296-4118, ext. 233 for more information!

Long-Term Volunteering

Evening Childcare Volunteer ReadyKids is looking for two volunteers who love kids! The volunteers would provide free childcare in our lobby for parents who are attending a “Trauma-Informed Parenting” class. The goal of the group is to provide parenting education and emotional support and education for parents and caregivers of children or teens who have experienced trauma. There are usually no more than 8 kids, varying in ages from infants to pre-teens. Dinner is provided for the kids (pizza). A second volunteer would be with you for support (or you could recruit a friend to volunteer with you!). You’d also get to work closely with our trauma counselors and front desk staff if you run into issues. We’re happy to give you a tour of ReadyKids, or meet with you in person before you make a commitment. We can also put you in touch with volunteers who handled the child care during our fall trauma-informed parenting group, so you can ask questions and get unbiased responses. The volunteer position does require a fair bit of paperwork, including fingerprinting and a background check, because you would be working with vulnerable children. But, it’s a very rewarding experience! Perfect for a retiree, or for students interested in counseling or teaching as future professions! The group will meet on Thursdays from 5 – 6:30 from February 6 – March 26 at ReadyKids. Email Kristin Sancken, Communications Officer, or call (434) 296-4118, ext. 233 for more information!

If you require reasonable accommodation during the application or hiring process, please contact Laura Tomaine, HR Administrator at 434.296.4118 ext. 244 or ltomaine@readykidscville.org.
