At ReadyKids, our Growing Minds program's goal is that all children, regardless of their family resources, have access to high quality early care and learning programs. Quality programs have sound health and safety practices. They also foster a child’s positive sense of self and others. Quality means that each child’s learning and development is intentionally and individually supported by caregivers and teachers. Every interaction counts during the crucial early years that prepare children for school and life success.
QRIS - Quality Rating and Improvement Systems
Quality Rating and Improvement Systems exist in most states across the country and are a proven strategy to systematically improve the quality of child care and early learning programs. In Virginia, the Virginia’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), is shortened to “Virginia Quality.” Virginia Quality is designed to assist child care and preschool programs in providing high quality early care and education and recognize programs for the services they are providing to families.
When a family selects a care provider, they hope they are making a good choice. A QRIS clarifies and communicates benchmarks of quality across different types of settings – center-based, religious/faith-based, or home-based. Participating programs can demonstrate their commitment to quality at five different levels across four nationally recognized quality standards. Each quality level builds upon the level before it and prepares for the level after.
The self-paced Virginia Quality system offers a variety of quality improvement supports including online webinars, group trainings and professional learning communities. In addition, the ReadyKids Growing Minds program provides coaching from a friendly, knowledgeable team of consultants with experiences in a diverse range of early childhood programs. Child care programs can request specific Technical Assistance/Consultation according to their readiness for change and specific quality improvement goals.
Quality improvements are most meaningful and sustainable when aligned with the philosophy and priorities of your program. We recognize that each early childhood setting is unique and that one-size-fits-all doesn’t really fit! We’ll take the time to get to know you and find resources to meet your needs.
By voluntarily joining Virginia Quality, early learning programs show their staff, families, and community that they are committed to quality for young children. There is no fee to participate in Virginia Quality.
